Datta Davjekar is a name in the list of the small time composers but he is remembered for his contribution to the rich Indian music collections .Also the great singing titan Lata Mangeshkar came from his music in Aap ki Sewa mein.

Datta Davjekar was born to father Baburao. His father used to play tabla for live folk musical plays as well as in Urdu plays. Datta learned how toplay tabla and harmonium and thus developed an interest in music. He also started composing songs.Later, Datta was invited by the famous star Shanta Apte to perform on her shows . Datta performed at places as far off as Allahabad and Lahore.

Datta assisted C. Ramachandra and Chitragupta for a while. His first break came with a marathi film Municipality In the year 1941 followed by Sarkari Pahune (1942). One of its songs ‘Naache Sangeet Natwar’ was a big hit.Datta worked with big names like Raja Paranjape, Gajanan Jagirdar, Master Vinayak, Dinkar Patil, Datta Dharmadhikari, Rajdutt and Raja Thakur. His famous films include Rangalyaa Raatri Ashyaa, Paathlaag, Pahu Re Kitni Vaat, Thoraataanchi Kamlaa, Padchaaya, Chimanrao Gundyabhao, Pedgaonche Shahane, Juna Te Sona, Sant Vahate Krishna Mai, Sukhaachi Sawali, Viasakh Vanwaa, Yashoda and his last film release to date was Pahaate Punyechi (1992).

He also composed music for Maazhe Baal (1943), which was his first film with Lata Mangeshkar and later scored the Hindi film Aap Ki Sewa Main (1947) in which he introduced Lata Mangeshkar to Hindi films with the song ‘Paa Laagoo Kar Jori Re’. Datta did two more Hindi films, Vasant Joglekar’s Aap Ki Adalat and Premnath’s English - Hindi bilingual, Prisoner of Golconda in which he introduced Sudha Malhotra.

His non- - film song ‘Sainik Ho Tumchyaa Saathi’ was a super - hit and its sales proceeds went to the Armed Forces. Datta also composed music for twelve (12) plays including Thank You Mr. Glad for which he learnt German music. He composes music even today for documentaries, but has done only sixty (60) films in fifty-two (52) years.
