Family: Wife. Raju Singh hails from a family that had a business in selling musical instruments. He was born to father Charanjit Singh who himself was a musician. He thus didnt take much time to imbibe the music.Guitar was his consistent companion in school and college. Raju Singh studied at the Xavier’s College at Vile Parle, Mumbai.Later on he earned a degree from Mithibai College in Mumbai. But that didnt help him pursue a career in music . His initial training in music was under Guru Uttam Singh for 3 years. The famous duo Jatin Lalit were his batchmates.He played the guitar and keyboards for R. D. Burman till his untimely demise. His first collaboration was with Malkit Singh of ‘Hai Jamalo’ fame. Together with Adesh Srivastav they released an album called I Love Golden Star which was quite a rage in the underground circles in Britain.Some of his early compositions include of serials like "Dekh Bhai Dekh", "Filmi Chakkar", "Aahat", "Boogie Woogie" and "C.I.D". He has worked with top singers like Kavita Krishnamurty, Sadhana Sargam, and Sonu Nigam but before they burst into the limelight. Raju Singh came out with an album Roop Inka Mastana which was unique in concept and executionwhen remix was an infant and nobody actually took doing remixes seriously. Also his "Hai Jamalo" with Malkit Singh popularised him overnight. And his album "I Love Golden Star" with Aadesh Shrivastva proved a rage in the West in 1986. Despite his firm contacts he preferred working on his own and the result was his very first album "Koi Baat Nahin".It impressed Javed Akhtar so much that he got ready to work with him in "Tum Yaad Aaye." This famous album that brought Javed Akhtar and Alka Yagnik together for the first time . This album helped Raju Singh, score a few points in the Hindi film music world. Hence, came his way a few films like "Deewanapan" "Paagalpan" and now Madhur Bhandarkar's "Satta", as also others, including "Kisi Se Na Kehna", "Shaadi.com", "Karvat", "Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain" and Digmanshu Dhulia's latest flick. And he has also scored music for a Malayalam film "Snehapurvam Anna". with the help of his wife who is a Malayali. Raju Singh has placed himself comfortably in Bollywood and looks forwards with good projects.
