Shiv and Hari stand for Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia respectively. Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma was born in Jammu in 1938. He learned the santoor under the guidance of his father, Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma.
Shiv Kumar became one of the most innovative santoor players in the country .
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was born in Allahand, in 1938. When he was sixteen ,he started learning how to play the flute. He won international acclaim as a master of the North Indian bamboo flute. The two maestros met in the fifties and when Shiv Kumar moved to Bombay in 1960, abd their acquiantance gave birth to a innovative musical association. Together they have been responsible for some of the most timeless film music the industry has produced many big hits.
