Profession: Music Director, Bollywood.
The much acclaimed music director's racy tracks have consistently topped charts and his hits include such films as 'Mohra', 'Gupt' and 'Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan'. We are taling about Viju Shah the son of veteran composer Kalyanji's son. He never considered any other profession than music. Viju Shah learnt music from several teachers firstly from his own father and others like Pt. Chaturbhuj Rathod (late father of Shravan, Roopkumar and Vinod Rathod), Pt. Ramprasad Sharma (late father of veteran Pyarelal) and Pt. Satyanarayan Mishra, who still guides him.
Gulshan Rai decided to introduce his son Rajiv as director with his new film, Yudh that was released in 1985. Rajiv and Viju Shah were already great friends and their tuning was perfect. So Viju – unofficially – contributed a sizable chunk to the score of the film ‘Kya Hua Kya Nahin’ and ‘Danke Pe Chot Lagi Hai’.
The overwhelming success of ‘Tirchi Topiwale’ from the film Tridev composed by Viju Shah unduly diverted attention from the excellent and original crafting of songs like ‘Gajar Ne Kiya Hai Ishara’, ‘Gali Gali Mein Phirta Hai’ and ‘Main Teri Mohabbat Mein’. The fact that Viju had included the Gloria Estefan hook line ‘Oye Oye’ branded him as a copycat even before he had started. The fate of the music of Muqaddar Ka Badshah (1990) further consolidated this unfortunate conclusion, as none of Viju Shah’s songs made any popular impact. He scored brilliant background music for Chaalbaaz and Ladai (both 1989) and Zahreelay (1990) also went unnoticed.Though his next release Vishwatma had a successful number ‘Saat Samandar’ sung by Sadhana Sargam , he did not get much appreciation.
Viju continued his career as a musician. He was signed for the background score of Venus’ Main Khiladi Tu Anari' (1992) which was a hit and its music was much appreciated .In 1994, R. D. Burman’s 1942 – A Love Story was a sensation that eliminated all musical competition. The score from Mohra, ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ and ‘Na kajre ki dhaar’ set the charts ablaze. Once again, Viju was on a high.Later on he composed music for Pyar, Ishq Aur Mohabbat and Gupt including hit songs '
