Vishal Bharadwaj is the son of famous lyricist ,Ram Bharadwaj. He was born and brought up in the Bijnoir district of Uttar Pradesh. Surprisingly Vishal’s greatest ambition in life was to be a cricketer .He even played cricket for the under-19 team for his state. His father, wrote songs for films like Jurm Aur Saza and Zindagi Aur Toofan. Though he wanted Vishal to be a music composer he didn't discourage him from playing cricket.
When his father died, Vishal took the responsibility of his family. He moved to Delhi and started playing the harmonium for little known ghazal singers at the various food festivals in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. He composed music for documentaries and Delhi Doordarshan programmes. He met R.V. Pandit during his struggling days, who offered him a job in his CBS music company in Delhi. And he came to Mumbai to look forward music as his career.
Suresh Wadkar a friend to him recommended him to Gulzar. They collaborated again for children’s films and serials like ‘Jungle Book’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Guchche’. Then Maachis happened. The music of ‘Maachis’ became a best seller for Pan Music.
He has composed brilliant music for films like Gulzar's Maachis and Hu Tu Tu, Ram Gopal Varma's Satya, and Vinay Shukla's Godmother. He even won the Filmfare R D Burman Award for Maachis in 1996.This aspiring music director took a step forward into film direction with Makdee, starring Shabana Azmi that wons many awards and accolades.
After the winning the Filmfare R.D. Burman award the attitude of the film industry underwent a drastic change towards Vishal. And everything changed!He was loaded with offfers of Satya, Chachi 420 and a host of other plum projects .
